As we round the bend towards Spring, the desire to get in the dirt and sow some seeds grows strong for the kindred spirit farmer and gardener. While Kimmy and I are still on the hunt for our small slice of farm heaven, I decided the next best thing for us to do was to join our local community garden in Saranac Lake.
Community Gardens make for better communities
We’ll be getting a good sized plot for the season and I’m looking forward to connecting with other gardeners in the area. Common Ground Garden gets together for several events throughout the year so it seems to be a really good community outlet as well.
The mission of Common Ground Garden:
”Common Ground Garden provides land, resources, and knowledge to residents in the Saranac Lake area to encourage the cultivation of healthy food, healthy communities, and a hands-on education in gardening.”
Garden plots are available for a small donation at two sites, at 254 Old Lake Colby Road, and at Willow Way off Mackenzie Pond Rd. Plot leases run Nov 1st to Oct 31st and are available to all. Our plot is off of Willow Way (map it).
I’m really excited that such a community garden exists in our small demographic. This makes the anticipation of a warm sunny Spring even more heightened after our long Winter.
Stay tuned for future updates & photos from our community garden plot!
Can’t wait to see what our green thumbs are able to produce up here in the Adirondacks!
